Deep-sea benthos are mostly deposit feeders and therefore do not ordinarily expend much energy in maintaining permanent domiciles; the above burrows represent obvious and important exceptions, however, reflecting behavioral responses to environmental conditions other than simply the depth of water or distance from shore.
CONCLUSIONS The study of trace fossils involves several concepts and approaches that are somewhat unusual among other branches of geology and biology, perhaps imparting a "mystical" Robert W.
