Tableware manufacturers were interested in color as a natural way to increase the size of their product offerings while container manufacturers were interested in forehearth coloring for the production of emerald green and Georgia green. Additionally, the globalization of glass production, which continues to this day, increased the number of color forehearths. The shift of the color production from the lower pulled cosmetic color forehearths to the higher pulled tableware and container color forehearths forced thefirstredesign of the standard color forehearth layout.

Deadleaf green glass is now being regularly converted to both antique green and French green on color forehearths serving the expanding worldwide wine industry. CONCLUSION The forehearth coloring process that was started in the 1970"s has gone through several changes with respect to the layout of the color forehearth zones and the coloring equipment to adjust to the increasing pull and coloring demands of glass manufacturers. The forehearth coloring process will continue to make improvements to the process to offer glass manufacturers the flexibility to deliver the properly colored glass to their customers.

The sensor has demonstrated that with conventional PID control, the gob temperature can vary significantly even though the equalizing thermocouples indicate stable behavior. At the Saint-Gobain Containers, Inc. 5°F of the optimum temperature, the presence of seal surface and split finish defects could be significantly reduced. The BrainWave system treats the forehearth as a single unit rather than several zones and continuously adjusts the upstream process in order to maintain the setpoint.
